What is Asthma?
Asthma is a common lung condition that causes occasional breathing difficulties.
It affects people of all ages and often starts in childhood, although it can also develop for the first time in adults.
There’s currently no cure, but there are simple treatments that can help keep the symptoms under control so it doesn’t have a big impact on your life.
Symptoms
The main symptoms of asthma are:
● Wheezing (a whistling sound when breathing) ● Breathlessness ● A tight chest, which may feel like a band is tightening around it ● Coughing
The symptoms can sometimes get temporarily worse. This is known as an asthma attack.
Several conditions can cause similar symptoms, so it’s important to get a proper diagnosis and correct treatment.
Your GP will usually be able to diagnose asthma by asking about symptoms and carrying out some simple tests.
Treatments
The main types are:
● Reliever inhalers – used when needed to quickly relieve asthma symptoms (salbutamol) ● Preventer inhalers (steroid) – used every day to prevent asthma symptoms occurring ● Some people also need to take tablets.
Causes and triggers
Asthma is caused by swelling (inflammation) of the breathing tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs. This makes the tubes highly sensitive, so they temporarily narrow.
It may occur randomly or after exposure to a trigger. Common asthma triggers include:
● Allergies – to house dust mites, animal fur or pollen, for example ● Smoke, pollution and cold air ● Exercise ● Infections like colds or flu ● Identifying and avoiding your asthma triggers can help you keep your symptoms under control
Side Effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The following side effects may happen with this medicine:
Allergic Reactions (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people)
If you have an allergic reaction, stop taking Ventolin Evohaler and see a doctor straight away.
Talk to your doctor as soon as possible if you feel your heart is beating faster or stronger than usual (palpitations). This is usually harmless, and usually stops after you have used the medicine for a while. You may feel your heartbeat is uneven or it gives an extra beat, these may affect up to 1 in 10 people.
Tell your doctor if you have any of the following side effects which may also happen with this medicine:
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)
● Feeling shaky ● Headache
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)
● Mouth and throat irritation ● Muscle cramps
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people)
● A low level of potassium in your blood ● Increased blood flow to your extremities (peripheral dilatation). ● Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people) ● Changes in sleep patterns and behaviour, such as restlessness and excitability
If you wish to keep all of your symptoms under control, taking Ventolin Evohaler may be more effective than taking a placebo ● It is usually more effective when the two are used at the right dose
Snec CShould I double your dose?
If you double your dose, you should use your normal dose of Ventolin Evohaler every day for the first few days. The longer you use Ventolin Evohaler, the more frequent your symptoms will be. Consult your doctor before you double your dose to prevent an easily understandable dose change.
If you do not keep all of your asthma symptoms totally controlled, you should see a doctor straight away. They may repeat the dose at a different time and may need to check in with you about changing your dose.

The manufacturer of the brand-name drug asthma inhalers Ventolin has launched a new drug to treat the respiratory condition in which it has been prescribed for more than a decade. The Asthma Control Unit at the Royal Free Hospital in Ellsberg will now receive a two-year prescription from a doctor.
Asthma inhalers Ventolin will now be available on prescription only for people aged 12 and over. Asthma inhalers will be available from September 2019.
Asthma inhalers are a popular treatment for the shortness of breath and wheezing caused by asthma. The drug Ventolin is a brand name for the drug salbutamol, which is an inhaled bronchodilator that relaxes the muscles in the airways of the lungs. It is used to treat asthma and other lung conditions such as breathing problems caused by asthma.
The drug is the first asthma inhaler to be approved for use in the treatment of people with asthma. The drug, which has been in clinical use for more than a decade, has been linked to a significant reduction in the number and severity of asthma attacks in people with asthma. Asthma inhalers can only be used under the supervision of a doctor and are not available in the United States.
The Asthma Control Unit will now be able to receive a prescription from a doctor, following which the drug will be dispensed by the Royal Free Hospital in Ellsberg. The prescription will be for one year, and the doctor will prescribe the drug for one year.
It is the first time that Asthma inhalers are available without a prescription. The drug, which has been available over the counter for more than a decade, was first introduced in 1969.
It was quickly found to have a negative effect on people’s generalised feelings of anxiety and paranoia. It also caused a severe and potentially dangerous fall in blood pressure.
The Asthma Control Unit has now been named Asthma in the Royal Free Hospital’s Wales online emergency department.
In 2012, around US$44million has been made available for people with asthma. The cost of the new drug, which was first available as an over-the-counter drug in 1969, is estimated at around $1.6million.
